Hiking Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Loop Trail + Summit Trail

Distance: ~6 miles

Hike time: ~4 hours

Difficulty: Moderate to challenging (due to sliding rock faces)

Tips: Hike the Summit Trail first and then pick another trail to hike afterward.

Trail map from Texas Parks and Wildlife

We hiked these trails, which are open with large rocks sometimes looming in the distance and sometimes right there to climb over, in the summer in the early afternoon. We saw a variety of flora and fauna, including lizards, birds, cacti, flowers, shelf fungi, and butterflies. We made the mistake of hiking for several hours before hiking the summit trail, which is quite steep and rocky. We definitely recommend hiking to the summit and then around the park. Enchanted Rock is a unique and gorgeous hiking experience that you’re sure to enjoy. In fact, it takes more than one day to hike all the different trails and to see all that this park has to offer.
