Rating: 5 out of 5.

5 out of 5 stars — Lovely, even in the rain. Gorgeous trees, waterfalls, and streams along the hiking trails. Beautiful water lilies to canoe through. Large sites for big families. One of the best parks in Texas to be among the tall pine trees.

Site notes:

• Sites 50 and 51 can combine to make a huge site with enough room for four four-person tents. We comfortably had four tents, two on each site, for six people.
• The campsites each have 12×16 and 14×16 tent pads that are slightly slanted. Finding level sites for the other tents was a little more challenging, but doable.
• A potable water spigot is located at each site. There is a big trash dumpster within walking distance of both sites.
• These sites are nested in large tree groves, with the sound of a stream somewhere behind them.
• The picnic tables are located in the open, so we still had to set up a sun and rain shade over one table.

Animal sightings at campsite: Blue jay, toad, woodpeckers

Warnings:

Parking is a bit strange, as there are no paved spaces. You actually have to park on the dirt at the campsite, which may be a problem for lower vehicles.
