Glass or plexiglass

You can also choose between glass and plexiglass. Glass, of course, has a tendency to chip, crack, or break, so if you need to frame your work for gallery shows or if you want to send it or buy framed artwork or supplies via the mail, then plexiglass is a safer choice. Shows often require plexiglass to reduce the chance of receiving and returning damaged artwork.

You can also choose between standard and non-glare plexiglass. Given the choice, always select the non-glare option. Some companies also offer UV protection, but this option sometimes has a slight yellow tint that can affect the overall color of the artwork. This option might be worth it if you know that you’re going to hang the framed piece in a room with direct sunlight.
